Lunacy - Causing Loss of Life and Limb

Hey, Y'all,
Well, now, I am getting up on my soapbox, and hope I don't get dizzy and fall off. This morning, as I was lying in bed and watching the 5:00 news, I was again appalled by the violence that is taking place among young people who apparently have nothing to do but beat on each other with fists and clubs, and kick each other with violence. It speaks of lunacy and lack of any kind of empathy for others. A young man, only 17 years old, was being beaten and finally broke away from his attackers, only to get into a car, and driving away in haste, ran over a twelve year old innocent bystander, who died in the hospital later. The young man did not stop after running over the boy, but kept going. He was arrested later and charged for manslaughter. The whole thing was caught on video by a camera phone, probably belonging to another young person on the scene.

Folks, what is our country coming to???  It turned up on the local news here, because it happened in one of the suburbs of Dallas. But I know it happens all over our country. I just don't understand it. Are our children becoming desensitized to feelings of others? Why? It is like Mob Mentality when a bunch of kids or even adults can gang up on a peer and try to kill them.

I know that many of our young people would never dream of doing such a thing. It horrifies us to think that it could happen so much lately at schools and on the playgrounds. So much of the beatings have wound up on UTube, recorded on camera phones and posted. What has America come to? It is lunacy.

Okay, off the soapbox now. I thank God for the kids that have not taken that path, and for the parents that have raised children in the fear of the Lord, and respect for others.

This is Blabbin' Grammy signing off for today, after telling you about my grandson, Daniel J. Bennett, who has written a book, published by Kregel Publications. The book is called "A Passion for the Fatherless" about adoption, and can be purchased at Amazon and is also available on electronic books. We are so pleased about his dedication to promote adopting and caring for fatherless children. I am so pleased with all my grandchildren. Carol and Teresa and their spouses have done wonderful jobs in raising them. (Grandparents are allowed to brag, you know. It is a part of our right)

Well, that is about it for today. Much love to each of you, my friends and family. Bye for now. More later.

Lunacy is a good word to describe the seeming lack of empathy in the world. Could it have something to do with some of the changes in child-rearing and education? In the past twenty years or so, it seems like parents are more intent on being friends to their children than in being parents. After all, being a good role model, providing guidance and instilling decent values takes real work. And parents and schools alike have gone so far overboard in teaching so-called self-esteem that children no longer grasp the idea that self-esteem is a byproduct of actually DOING something of worth, and not a self-indulgent given. Both of these trends can't help but breed self-centeredness, and where self is the center of the universe, there's no room for empathy towards other people. (Of COURSE, my grandchildren aren't like this at all!)

I'm shocked at what my middle schooler is facing this year. Things I never experienced before high school. I wouldn't want to be a teenager now.

I'm a new follower from the A-Z challenge. :)

This reminds me of the time when the kids in Chicago beat that kid with a rail road tie and killed him while the other kids stood by and filmed. They were horrified, but I don't think the knew what to do. That was the most horrific thing ever and I agree with why you got on soapbox. Who better to preach to the world than those who have lived in it longest?

Thank you so much for this post! You are so right! Now alot of people will disagree with me but I feel it's a combo of the way people raise their kids and what they are exposed to on tv and film. It's everywhere! Gone are the days when kids were expected to pay the piper for wrong doing...now we just want loopholes and ways to "beat"the system. Some Parents give too much too soon and kids are not expected to do anything to merit any reward. Then there are the lazy parents who teach nothing and wonder why timmy is on drugs or out stealing and hurting others. I am the mother or two kids and I am scared of the world they are facing. I pray for all good kids and the ones who are lost...I hope they all find their way. great post. Blessings, Joanne

Yes, the world is a chnaged place since we were young.

I hate to say it, bgut the world was a much more peaceful place when mothers stayed home and reared their children and parents took the time to teach them some values.

Promiscuity is widespread and now girls do all the things only boys used to do. Many babies are born out of wedlock and that is something that was considered a tragedy when I was young. Now it's an everyday occurance.

Violence is widesprad throughout society. Look at all the school shootings noqadays.

If I were young today, I would not want to bring children into such a violent world.

Lunacy is a very good word to describe it, but it's not just the kids. I think thre are a fair number of adults afflicted as well.

Stopping by on the A-Z Challenge.

You are SO right, Grammy...The world has gone stark raving mad! And, that soap box is where we need to shout out to the world about these kids that bully and terrorize other peers! Also, the way that the parenting in many, many homes has laxed, it is pitiful! Some of the teens/young adults should be grounded til marriage, so it seems! Some parents are just lousy and lazy with their skills! Seems they are blaming the schools when it begins at HOME!! Like your posting, Grammy, you just get up on that soap box any ol' time!
See you soon....
