In Hiding

Hey, Y'all,
Well, I am feeling better and was by yesterday afternoon, but last night had my first experience at hiding from a tornado in many years. It was not the most pleasant by any great means. At about 7:30 I gathered together my flashlight, cell phone, book to read, two banana popsicles, plantain chips, bottle of water, and headed to the bathroom connected to my bedroom and left the television on loud enough for me to hear it. First, I sat on the closed commode seat and had my popsicles before they melted. (I had my late lunch/early supper at about 2:30 in the afternoon). So, while I was eating my popsicles, I was listening to the last songs being performed by Scotty and Lauren on American Idol. I had a few chips then, and closed that bag and began reading.

I heard hail hitting the roof, and then some rain, and then nothing but the television blaring warnings, and occasionally Glee music, since it was tuned to Fox network, but mostly the weathermen were controlling the airwaves with their continuing updates on the weather.

Pretty soon, I was sitting on the bathstool in my bathtub, and trying to be comfortable. The keyword here is "comfortable"....not happening....leaning against the wall, dozing off...waiting two hours until the television finally declared the area safe..Duh! You may be saying, "Why not just get your pillow and lie down in the tub"? Are you going to be there to help me get up? Ha!

About 10 p.m. I donned a nightgown and crawled into bed, through hiding from twisters and glad I had a bed to get into, feeling sympathy for those who don't. I can't imagine what it would be like to have my roof blown away, with water pouring in, getting everything soaked...well, I can imagine, actually, but it is not a pretty picture. I have been watching pictures of devastation in Joplin, Missouri, and seeing the rescue efforts still taking place there. My heart goes out to them.

Well, enough of that jazz...Back to my visit to Tennessee...
On Monday, the 16th, my 78th birthday, I went to visit with one of my long-time friends, Gwen, and spent two and a half hours chatting with her at her beautiful home out in the country. Gwen and I were at Carson-Newman College together, and had some really good times there, so we have been friends for nearly fifty years. Her husband passed away just seven months before mine did, which gives us even more in common. Unfortunately, I forgot to get a picture of my visit with Gwen. She served me some really yummy cake and hot tea.

At about noon, I met another longtime friend, Dot, who was also one of my college friends. We had a prolonged lunch at Perkins in Dandridge, and I do have a picture that I asked the waitress to take. Dot drove up from Benton to have lunch with me.
Dot and Me

Well, this is about it for today..tomorrow, I will have pictures of the new flower beds constructed by my son-in-law, Daryl, and my grandsons. While they were putting together my flower beds, Carol and Emily were putting together my bench and glass topped patio table, which I had taken apart back in Tennessee last July. It had been sitting on my back deck, waiting for me to put it together again. They took pity on me and did it for me. Aren't I fortunate to have such a wonderful family? They constructed the flower beds for Mother's day and my birthday. I also got a gift card to use at Lowe's for the flowers to go into it.

It is just now five a.m. and I may go back to bed for awhile, if hunger doesn't get the better of me and force me to have a very early breakfast...hmmm.

This is Blabbin' Grammy signing off for now. Much love to each of you, my friends and family. Bye for now. More later.

:-) I started to cal at 9:30 to check on you, but figured you might have been in bed...I guess I should have called! Daryl watched most of it on the front porch....eventually, Linda, Mary, Nathan, Daryl and I were out in the circle watching the clouds...awesome!

I'm glad you were spared the wrath of those tornadoes, even if you did have to spend an extra long time in the john. (Maybe you need a swooning sofa in there!)Oh, and a very belated happy birthday to you.

Ha, thanks, a swooning couch would be perfect, but would leave no room for La Commode. :)
