Blood and Bones

Hey, Y'all,
I know this sounds like a strange subject about which to be writing, but it fascinates me. I am an avid reader of murder mysteries, and suspense stories. I also love to watch the series about that subject such as: "CSI", "Bones", "Law and Order", "Crossing Jordan", "The Mentalist"....well, you get the idea, I am sure. Oh, yes, and "Monk" which is actually one of my favorites.

The bones are fascinating to me because it is deep within their marrow that the platelets in the blood are created. In each drop of that blood is found the DNA which contains the pattern of our bodies' composition, what makes us who we are genetically. Isn't that amazing?

I remember the wonder and amazement of holding a flashlight up to my fingers, shining it up through my skin when I was a very small child. I could see the bones in my fingers, and the pink of my blood through the skin.

I can look into the mirror and see features very much like members of my family, many of them long gone now, and know that the DNA which is contained in each drop of my blood would reveal the same patterns if compared with DNA that would be found in their bones even now, years after their passing.

Think about the bones of our bodies. They are so very strong, and yet they can break easily if pressure is applied in certain ways. They are tensile, they hold us up, they last long after our flesh decays, and after the blood drains from them. They grow, and form the framework of our bodies (the skeleton). Many books and articles have been written about them.

I suppose that bones fascinate me partly because of the frame of my spine. I was born with a condition known as congenital kyphosis. My spine curves in such a manner that it has always caused me to have pain. As a girl, I could not sweep the floors without pain in my lower back, because the twisting motion caused me pain. I have been to many doctors, and some of them have suggested surgery and I have consistently rejected that idea. No day goes by without pain in my back, but God gives me grace to forgo any surgery. He has bestowed upon me a high pain threshold that has so far eliminated the need for that course of action. About ten years ago, I was diagnosed as having spinal stenosis, which is narrowing of the spinal canal carrying the bundles of nerves that descend from the neck to the lowest part of the spine. As the canal narrows, it provides less room for these nerve bundles, thereby causing pain.

You may wonder where I am going with this. It is this: we humans are not the result of evolution, we were created in God's image. We did not just happen. Each of us has a planned pattern in our blood, and a planned pattern for our lives. God has instilled in each of us these patterns. When we live in His will, the patterns for our lives are revealed to us as we need them and not beforehand. There is much more I wanted to say, but this is enough for today.

We had a wonderful time yesterday with Mae and Imazo. Gramps had a small problem after we got back to Imazo's house, but I got him cleaned up and into clean clothes that I carry in the car with us, so we were able to watch the movie that I had brought with us. I know that more events like that will occur as he gets farther into his illness of dementia. As I have said before, sometimes he thinks I am his Aunt Lula, and when we were on our way to the beauty shop to get our hair cut on Wednesday, he thought she was the one driving (which would be a miracle because she has been gone for years). I asked him if he was excited about going to Texas and he said no. I said, "Won't Matt be disappointed if you don't go to his wedding?". Matt is our grandson. Gramps said, "Well, Ruby is holding that over my head". I said, "Well, maybe you won't have to go then."

So he won't be going. I have contacted the Terrace Estates which is an assisted living place where we have stayed before and he is okay with that. With aging, there are always things that have to be dealt with, as with life in general. Ha. Now, instead of driving, I will be flying out to Texas. I look forward to seeing everyone, and will be able to go without worrying unduly about how Gramps is being looked after while I am away from him. He is so very dear to all of us.

All of you who are reading this, thank you so very much for your visits. It is wonderfully interesting to see all the different ideas from each blog. Wow! It really takes a lot of time to read all of them, doesn't it? I apologize if I don't get comments written to you all. My time is not always my own.

I have to run out to the grocery store this morning, and then get laundry done after while. I promised Gramps he could sleep in as long as he likes today, and I must get dressed and soon be on my way. This is Blabbin' Grammy signing off for today (it is going to be around 83 today!) Wonderful warm weather! Yippee! More later. Much love to each of you. Bye for now.

I to share the stenosis fun, so I feel your pain, pun intended. :) All we can do is live life, one day at a time and enjoy what we are given.

Ruby what a fasinating blog about bones, I am sorry about your medical conditions with your back.
In 1989 I had the bottom vertabrae removed as I couldn't walk at all and believe me back surgery is not nice.
Have a lovely day you and gramps and hopefully read another one tomorrow.
Take care.
Yvonne.

I am also new to your blog Ruby, through this challenge we have embarked upon. I am absolutely in love with it though...your charm and zeal for life are contagious!

Your love and care for 'Gramps' is admirable as well. You are a beautiful lady and I am so glad to have found you.

While I don't get into all of the other shows you mentioned, I absolutely loved 'Monk' and was so sad it went off the air!

Blessings to you today!

Quite interesting to see everyone takes on the letter b. I try to avoid shows with much blood and bones but you bring up some good points about bones.
